Date and place, accommodation. Red Fox Adventure Race 2009 takes place in Melnikovo village, the Leningrad Region (in 120 km from St.Petersburg) on June 12 - 14, 2009. Start and base camp of the Race is situated at the Vuoksa lakeside. Team accommodation is supposed in field environment (tent camp). Expected air temperature during the race - not below +15°С. The participants can rent by themselves rooms and cottages on some of the tourist centres, located 10 km from the base camp of the competitions. List of accommodations will be published on race website. PROGRAM

Race format and disciplines. Non-stop adventure race. Teams in each class: team of 4, at least one woman and team of 2 (any gender). Race is allowed for participants, who is older that 18-years. Race distance - 300 km. Expected leader's time: 42 h. Race dead-line: 50 h. Each stage has a control time. If the control time is exceeded, the team will not be admitted to the next stage and dismissed from the race. The limit time of each stage is indicated in the legend. The exact information about route cuts time will be announced on the briefing for teams. The full race information and stages order will be announced on the briefing on June 12, 2009. Common start for teams. Short description of each stage: Stage 1: paddling ( with orienteering) Distance: about 30 km Expected leader's time: 5 h Paddling takes place in the water area of lakes and channels. Check points are located on islands and promontories, and are tied up to simple orienting points. Waves and strong wind may be source of danger on the route. Participants must wear life vests! The kayaks/ canoes must be equipped with floatation bags and skirting. Stage 2: trekking 1 Distance: 40 km Expected leader's time: 10 h Trekking area is characterised by broken relief ("Scandinavian type"). There are many rock outlets. The falls between rock ridges are waterlogged. Flora - taiga. The road network is middling developed. Stage 3: rock-climbing Expected leader's time: 1 h Some rock routes with different level of complexity. The team receives bonus for each route, that consists in the reduction of compulsory check points on the next stage " Orienteering ". It is obligatory to use upper judicial insurance on some routes. Another routes are short bouldering. It's recommended using rock shoes.
The routes are passed by one of the participants of the team; there are 2 trails for each route. In different trails can take part different participants of the team. It’s recommended to use special climbing shoes. Distance: up to 15 km Expected leader's time: Orienteering without obligatory route, sport map in natural scales 1:10000. The quantity of check points is defined by results of previous leg "Rock-climbing". Stage 5: trekking 2 Distance: 15 km Expected leader's time: 2 h Trekking area is similar to trekking 1, but the road network is more dense. Stage 6: paddling 2 (with orienteering) Distance: 30 km Expected leader's time: 5 h Paddling takes place in the water area of lakes and channels. Check points are located on islands and promontories, and are tied up to simple orienting points. Waves and strong wind may be source of danger on the route. Participants must wear life vests! The kayaks/ canoes must be equipped with floatation bags and skirting. Stage 7: secret discipline Distance: Expected leader's time: 10 minutes It's not required any special technical skills and equipment for this leg. The secret of the leg will be disclosed on the briefing before start. Stage 8: mountain biking (orienteering) Distance: 24 km Expected leader's time: 1,5 h The route goes along forest roads and trails. The teams must have minimal bicycle repair kit. Bicycles must be equipped with taillights. It is obligatory to wear a helmet during the stage. Stage 9: mountain bike orienteering by the legend Distance: 25 km Expected leader's time: 1,5 h The route goes along the network of forest roads. The location of check points is indicated in the legend, but not shown on the map. The teams must have minimal bicycle repair kit. Bicycles must be equipped with taillights. It is obligatory to wear a helmet during the leg. Stage 10: mountain biking along the sea coast Distance: 7 km Expected leader's time: 1 h The route goes along sand beaches and trails. Stage 11: mountain biking Distance: 46 km Expected leader's time: 3 h The route goes along the country and asphalt roads. The teams must have minimal bicycle repair kit. Bicycles must be equipped with taillights. It is obligatory to wear a helmet during the leg. It's necessary to keep the rule of the road! Stage 12: paddling 3 Distance: 55 km Expected leader's time: 10 h Paddling takes place in the water area of lakes and channels. It's necessary to make some small portages. Check points are located on islands and promontories, and are tied up to simple orienting points. 5. Maps. Teams receive the maps, based on topographic maps of district in original scale 1:50 000. The maps of "Orienteering" stage will be given on start of this leg. All check points are printed in the maps. 6. Check points. 6.1. Marks at check points. Check points are equipped with white and red flag and electronic station. Electronic chips will be fixed on wrist of each participant and sealed. It will not hinder in changing dress or taking off/putting on gloves. Broken seal or loss of electronic chip leads to the team disqualification. Each member of the team should mark on check point. In exceptional situations, GPS track or photo can serve as a proof of visiting a check point. Competitors should inform the nearest judges about non-working or otherwise damaged check point. 6.2. Check points. Check points are tied up to the well-defined orienting points and can be distinguished from 10-m distance (if the legend doesn't indicate anything else). The sample of check point will be set on the start. It is obligatory to take all check points in order, stated by the legend. The race organisers can control of using mandatory equipment on some of check points. 6.3. Cut-offs points. The race design is planned in a way that allows to avoid queues and the need for time cut-offs. It's necessary for passing the distance in regime of real time. Race rules do not suppose any cut-offs during the races. 7. Teams. Teams of 4 and teams of 2. Teams of 4 At least one woman. Each member has to reach the age of 18 by the time of the race (June 12, 2009) and sign an agreement, relieving organisers of life and health responsibility. Each team should be presented by a captain, who registers the team, corresponds with organisation committee and represents the team before organisers, judges and press. Requirements for team and competitors: - Each participant should closely read the present Rules - Each participant should have necessary physical training, sufficient for active movement during 50 hours - It's obligatory to realize all risks, connected with the participation in the race - Participation in race means a complete and implicit acceptance of the Rules Registration confirms the following: team's members are aware of their own state of health and individual exercise limits and have all necessary technical skills for taking part in the race stages. - Organisers are free from any material, civil or criminal responsibility in case of bodily or material injury, occurred during the race - Competitors realize that the race distance is potentially unsafe in technical, natural and climatic sense. 8. Equipment. Mandatory equipment for each leg. In case of mandatory equipment lack the organizers have the right to forbid the team to participate in the stage. The availability of mandatory equipment will be checked during the race. 8.1 Team mandatory equipment (for teams of 4)

8.3. Transition areas There are two transition areas on the route: on start and at the end of the first stage, where should be left the canoes. Teams could leave foodstuffs, bivouac and another equipment, packed in its canoes. Moreover, the teams have right to leave foodstuffs and equipment with mountain bikes in special transition area on start. 9. Applications. On-line registration on website www.adventure-race.redfox.ru. The official registration - from 25th March to 25th May, 2009. The entrance fee should be paid on 12th June during the final team's registration in the base camp. The entrance fee - 4000 rubbles (160 euro) for team of 4 persons and 2000 rubbles (80 euro) for team of 2 persons. 10. Financing. The financing is realised at the cost of organisers, sponsors and sportsman's entrance fees. The detached organisations bear all costs of participant's passage, food and entrance fee. Teams could take part in the race under the official name of their sponsors. The names of teams will be published in mass media. 11. Safety. Each team HAS TO have a turned-off charged mobile phone for reaching the panel of judges in case of emergency. The organisation committee reserves to oneself the right to stop the team on the route, if the physical condition of team member causes concern and can damage his health. The telephone number for safety communication with organisers will be pointed in the legend. The incomplete teams Can not continue the race. The safety during the race is realised by the officers of the North-West of Russia search-and-rescue detachment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. 12. Competitors agreement. The responsibilities of competitors include a strict observance of the race Rules. Team or its member, dropped out of the race, should connect with organisers in short term, come back to finish and return the chips. ATTENTION! The organisers are not responsible for participant's equipment, left during the route. For the loss of the chip the participants have to refund the price of the chip equal to 1800 roubles. 13. Disqualification. Team can be disqualified for the following: - Using of transport not specified in the rules. - Lack of mandatory equipment on start or during the race. - Broken seal on the chip. - Breaking down of sport ethics (failure to render assistance by injured person or preventing other teams to reach the finish - check point removal and etc.). 14. Determination of the winners. The winners are determined under the least time on the routes on conditions that all members of the team have all marks on check points in adjusted order. Protests can be made not later than in 30 minutes after publication of preliminary results with reference to breach one point of these Rules. The chief judge settles all questions about the race results and separate moot points. In case of disagreement with the chief judge's decision, sportsmen can address to the appeal jury of the organisation committee. Ranking: - Individual results for teams of 4 and teams of 2. - The teams, finished in full number of racers and having all marks in the stated order, are ranked first of all in accordance with the finish time. - Then follow the teams, finished in full number of racers, whose members have all marks on check points in order of decrease the passed part of the distance. 15. Awards. In each of two classes will be awarded the teams, which take 1-3 places. They receive medals and prizes from the race organisers and sponsors. All teams, taking part in the race, will receive the official certificate. 16. Environmental rules. The organisers reserve to themselves the right to disqualify the teams, careless acted toward the nature. It's necessary to take all trash to the base camp or waste-bins in settlements. 17. Sport ethics. It's determined by the rules that the teams should look with favour on other teams. In case of critical situation, the teams should help each other, irrespective of the race results. The human mutual aid is appreciated higher than sport results by the race rules. 18. Spectators. Spectators and mass media are welcome for the race start, transition areas and finish zone. The race rules allow only moral support of the teams. The team can be disqualified for the outside assistance. With aim of maximum competition popularisation, the organisers reserve to themselves the right of allowing communication of mass media with teams during the race. The mass media can ask teams the questions at the start, on the route, in transition areas and at the finish zone. 19. Sponsor recognition. The logos of sponsors and organisers should be placed in accordance with the special scheme, delivered during the registration. The logos of personal team sponsors can be only in places, that are free from the logos of sponsors and organisers. During the race all participants should be dressed in the sleeveless sports shirts with numbers, received from organisers. The shirts with numbers should be always over the other clothes.
